Which courses can I register?
You will register for a three (3) credit course, and a one (1) credit course, offered as part of the Summer Session that is transferable to your institution. It is your responsibility to make the necessary arrangements for the transfer of these credits. Transfer credits depend on the school and the grade earned in the course(s) taken. Courses taken at any institution must be reported to the host institution.
What are the dates for the (3) credit course?
The session begins on July 13, 2009. You are encouraged not to miss class; however, if a conflict should arise, it is your responsibility to make the necessary arrangements with the instructor. The session ends July 31, 2009.
What type of academic support will the program offer?
It is the responsibility of the student to effectively plan and study regularly to maintain his/her grades. You are required to participate in the mandatory study hall with other Pre-College Programs participants. In addition, you will meet weekly with a staff member(s) of the Office of Pre-College Programs to discuss your academic progress. Any student who does not meet his/her obligations to the program will be dismissed and held financially responsible for the costs incurred.
What is my role and responsibilities in the program?
Your primary responsibility is to successfully complete your summer courses. You will also serve as a mentor to younger students in the program. Mentorship responsibilities may include conducting floor checks, assisting with activities, and participating in other opportunities to interact with your mentee.
Will we have a curfew?
Yes. Although, you will not have to be in your room with the lights out, you will be required to be in the building by 11:00pm.
Will I have to participate in all of the activities?
Yes. SIBS will be responsible for assisting with the supervision of program participants during select activities.
What is the leadership seminar?
SIBS are required to participate in a leadership seminar. The seminar is designed to assist you with the transition process from high school to college. The 2009 seminar will focus on the book “The 7 Habits of High Effective Teens” by Sean Covey.
