The LIFT Summer Academy provides 9th-12th grade students a flexible, affordable, and enriching experience that prepares them to excel in high school, college, and beyond.
The Summer Academy is a 6-week program made up of three institutes that can be taken individually or combined to fit a student’s needs. The institutes immerse students in the college experience through academic sessions and the opportunity to live on the University of Maryland campus, where they will be able to enhance their academic, social, and leadership skills.
Detailed curriculum information will be available soon. Both residential and day student programs are available for students. The institutes offered for the 2012 Summer Academy are the following:
Academic Enrichment Program
Research and Writing Institute
(June 17-29)
From application essays to final papers, writing is an essential part of college. This two-week session will expose students to the research process and teach them applicable writing methods that will benefit them both in the college application process and in their college career.
STEM Institute
(July 1-July 6)
Science, technology, math, and engineering majors are among the most competitive in the job market. This institute will give students a solid ground in the STEM fields to better prepare them for their college courses and start them on a journey to innovation and success.

Introduction to public Policy (Option: US Policy or Foreign Policy)
(July 1-July 6)
University of Maryland’s location just outside the nation’s capital allows it to be close to the political action that affects our daily lives. During this week long session, students will learn policy players, process, and strategy in U.S. or foreign policy so that one day they may pursue public office!
College Success Program
College Prep Institute
(July 8-July 20)
As college admissions become more competitive each year, good grades aren't always enough. This session will help students’ college applications shine and SAT scores reach new heights to give students an edge in the application process.
